19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is his first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, comprising in Halle previously this season.

The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

He rescued four early-game chances in a close third set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he earned the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after a lengthy match.
